How the Injection Molding Process Works
Injection molding is a highly efficient process that enables the creation of durable and complex plastic parts with remarkable accuracy. The process consists of the following steps:
- Mold Design & Fabrication – A custom mold is designed based on part specifications. Molds are typically made from aluminum or steel and consist of a cavity and a core that shape the plastic.
- Plastic Material Preparation – Thermoplastic resins are melted inside a heated barrel, where a rotating screw ensures even melting and material flow.
- Injection into the Mold – The molten plastic is injected into the mold cavity under high pressure, ensuring the material fully fills the shape of the part.
- Cooling & Solidification – Once inside the mold, the plastic cools and hardens into its final shape. Cooling channels within the mold help speed up this process.
- Ejection of the Part – After solidification, ejector pins push the finished part out of the mold for further processing.
- Post-Molding Processes & Quality Control – Parts are inspected for defects and may undergo secondary processes such as trimming, assembly, or finishing treatments.
